Abstract

ABSTRACT

Mentoring is one of the main functions carried out by teachers on a daily basis in which a great deal of coordination and interaction is needed with the various entities involved a child’s education, where a fundamental role is working with the families. Numerous studies have shown that there are many benefits when there is a good relationship between families and the school, the benefits being as much for the families as well as the school. Despite this, there are few instruments available for use in Spain to assess what families think about the mentoring processes in which their students are immersed. The purpose of this paper is to present the process of design and validation of a scale aimed at understanding the perception and satisfaction of families regarding the mentoring process in primary schools. The scale was applied to a sampling of 895 families and consists of 41 Likert-type questions grouped into six areas. The reliability reached a Cronbach alpha total of 0.910. After analysing the data, it can be concluded that the instrument meets the requirements of validity and reliability, which shows that the scale has sufficient scientific rigor. It is adapted for the Spanish population, and is able to show families’ satisfaction with the mentoring, the processes and functions of the tutor, the guidance counsellor, family involvement and the use of ICT.
