ABSTRACT
Since the proclamation of the Organic Law on Education (LOE) in May 2006, and the appearance of the terminology of competencies as an element of the curriculum, teachers have had to face a new way to assess. After a decade since this change, the aims of this study are to know the opinions of secondary school teachers about the competency assessment, to describe the type of assessment that they use and to analyze the influence that Guidance Departments can have in the advising of the competency assessment. To achieve these objectives semi-structured interviews to professionals (Spanish Language and Mathematics teachers and counselors) of six high schools in León province have been carried out. Data was analyzed using the qualitative analysis software NVivo 10. The main results show that a majority of teachers develops a mixed assessment model based on skills and content, finding a higher use among Mathematics teachers. On the other hand, it is observed that teachers have a positive opinion of the competency assessment but consider that they have had little training to implement it. Considering the influence of Guidance Departments on competency assessment, in general, there is still a lack of collaboration of counselors with teachers within a consultation model on this topic.
