Abstract

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to provide a better understanding of bullying in schools in Spain from a holistic point of view that integrates research advances made in the last ten years from a social and psychological perspective, addressing the key points derived from studies conducted in our country. The aim is to establish guidelines for future research and the psycho-educational implications in school environments. To this end, a non-systematic comprehensive review has been conducted in major databases (ERIC, Google Scholar and Web of Knowledge), using as main descriptors these keywords: school bullying, bullying and cyberbullying. Additionally, various articles published in national and international media have been selected covering studies conducted in Spain with student populations. In the development of the article the following key questions are addressed: What is the incidence of harassment in our country? What consequences can be seen in the psychological wellbeing of the victims who have suffered harassment? What are the most relevant variables involved in bullying? What guidelines should be taken into account in future research? And, What are the psycho-educational implications conclusions reached in the theoretical body? The analysis of the literature shows that research on bullying is based on a real need to know the impact of this phenomenon and its dynamics of action on the student population to improve early intervention and facilitate its prevention.
