Género y Política en la Universidad Globalizada: Hacia una Reacción Colectiva

Resumen

Este artículo busca invitar al mundo académico a tomar una posición definida y a adoptar un compromiso intenso en cuanto al cambio en las relaciones sociales de género. En virtud del número mayoritario de estudiantes universitarias y la presencia creciente de mujeres en puestos académicos y administrativos en muchos países del mundo propongo el desafío de ir más allá de la paridad entre mujeres y hombres para vislumbrar de qué maneras las mujeres académicas pueden liderar y acelerar el cambio social en las relaciones sociales de género.  Aunque existen significativos obstáculos, arguyo que este cambio es posible mediante el uso de teorías integrativas de género como sustento de acción. Mantengo asimismo que la universidad, como el núcleo, si no el monopolio, del conocimiento avanzado en la sociedad, debe trabajar en el desarrollo de currículos sensibles al género y trabajar en la producción de estrategias colectivas e institucionales.

Biografía del autor/a

Nelly Stromquist, University of Maryland

Nelly P. Stromquist es profesora emérita de la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad de Maryland, donde ocupó durante un período el H.R.W. Cátedra de Educación Internacional. Doctorada por la Universidad de Stanford, su investigación ha buscado yuxtaponer la conceptualización teórica con la evidencia empírica, centrándose en la dinámica de las políticas y prácticas educativas, las relaciones de género y la justicia social, la alfabetización de adultos y el impacto de la globalización en la educación, particularmente en el profesorado. Es autora de numerosos artículos y autora o editora de varios libros. Se ha desempeñado como presidenta de la Sociedad de Educación Internacional y Comparada (EE. UU.) y en 2017 fue nombrada miembro honoraria de esa Sociedad. Ha recibido tres premios Fulbright y el premio Kerstin Hesselgren Visiting Professorship otorgado por el Consejo Sueco de Investigación, 2012-2013.
