Abstract

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this paper is to understand fathers’ and mothers’ perceptions and beliefs about the academic choices made by their children. The paper focuses on the reasons that parents consider may explain their sons’ and daughters’ academic decisions during their Technological Senior Secondary Education. It also deepens the understanding of adults’ vision of their children and their maturity in this field. For these purposes, focus groups have been used in order to interpret meanings, to perceive understated differences and to exchange views between parents. The results suggest that most of them perceive a great indecision in their children. In most cases, the interest shown for practical activities or the avoidance of certain subjects seem to be central in the process of academic decision.
