Abstract

Social services have undergone a marked evolution due to social changes, emerging needs, and a variety of political and social factors that have affected their implementation, which is regulated by regional regulations that aim to guarantee the defense of citizens' rights in relation to personal autonomy and social integration. Social educators intervene to achieve these goals, performing actions typical of career guidance.

This article analyzes the career guidance model used in Primary Care Social Services by social educators and compares it with the model proposed by Sánchez García and Suárez Ortega (2018) entitled Building My Professional Career. To this end, a case study is conducted on seven Primary Social Services areas in Castilla-La Mancha and on a project specializing in career guidance linked to a social services area, using a descriptive and qualitative methodology through interviews with social educators. This has revealed that these professionals carry out specific career guidance functions and projects —which in some cases coincide with those stipulated by ASEDES Professionalization Documents (2007) and the CCP model—as well as recognizing barriers that affect them, they have increased their involvement in recent years, and require training.

With this information, a proposal is made for the implementation of the model Building my Professional Career in Primary Social Services in Castilla-La Mancha.
