Abstract

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research is to verify the efficacy of a program of intervention in the prevention of the violence with students of Secondary Education, focused on attitudes towards safe coexistence through interaction, communication and conflict resolution strategies. A total of 89 students participated, from natural groups with an age range of 11 to 15 years. This intervention was compared with other traditional methods (corrections, exclusions, reprimands etc.). A quasi experimental programme with a different control group was adopted, with attitudes and climate questionnaires, before and after the intervention, in both groups. Possible extraneous variables are controlled with “ad hoc” questionnaires applied to professors and students. The statistical techniques were the arithmetic mean and the multivarient analysis (varience analysis 2x2x2). The data analysis was carried out with program SPSS (version 14.0.). The results obtained indicate that specific intervention resulted in greater impact in the experimental group than in the control group, when modifying the attitudes towards diversity, violence and its social justification, as well as developing tolerant attitudes and rejection of violence. The preventive work of the violence to improve the school coexistence is effective. It´s recommendable to extend the intervention time, the implied agents and the familiar and social contexts.
