In the three first decades of the twentieth century, coinciding with the proliferation of Feminism in Spain, the figure of Carmen de Burgos «Colombine» stands out. She was a prolific journalist and writer, with a great social conscience, and above all a Feminist. This can be seen in the multiple organizations she belonged to, the speeches she gave and her numerous writings —mainly articles, essays, tales and novels—, that contributed to the spreading of her thinking. She was also a great lover and scholar of art from her own time and from the past. The deep knowledge she acquired in this area was reflected in a great part of her production. Her Feminist ideas, which were in many cases contradictory, are present in her essays about art. This gives them a new and interesting perspective that make her one of the earliest precursors of Feminism and criticism in Spain.
