Laurent Vital wrote the report of the first journey of Carlos V to Spain, that started in 1517 when he departed from Ghent to embark in Vlissingen and undertake through sea the crossing until Spain, arriving in Asturias. During that year’s summer, Carlos V enjoyed the landscape of his native land and roamed part of the Cantabric coast during the first month of that year’s Autumn , from Villaviciosa to San Vicente de la Barquera. In the story, the landscapes that he travelled through were analysed and described as well as the situations and feelings that he lived during the mentioned travel through his Flemish territories and Spanish grounds to which he became appointed as king.
