Professional competencies for mexican guidance practitioners

ABSTRACT
The constant changes in today's world have highlighted the urgent need for specialized educational counselorsin preparing new generations to achieve more just and equitable societies. The text presents the coordinated by E. AIOSP Repetto, conducted during 2002-2003 by the Mexican Association of ProfessionalCounselling (AMPO). With an exploratory study adapted the questionnaire provided by AIOSP,according to Mexican conditions and applied to a sample of Mexican counselors who worked at differenteducational levels. The 2003 results showed that in Mexico, educational counselors possess solidcompetencies in the areas of psychosocial, educational, vocational and professional, but that its formationwas less in the areas of guidance labor, community and Research and Evaluation. We also detecteda minor interest in the management of programs and services, and consulting. From these findings,AMPO and other educational institutions have prompted further studies on the specific training needsof counselors, designing training programs approaches socioconstructivistas and competency-based education.
