This article is about restauration of the Christ of the Convent at St. Saviour’sPalace in Benaver, Burgos, and the subsequent investigations wich were made after the original form was recovered, leadin to redating of the original work. The sculpture is one of few examples of early roman castilian carving on a large scale; it was a royal comission for a Benedictin Monastry in the second third of the developement of castilian artistic and iconographic imagery. From its begining until the present day, the sculpture has had many changes according to the religeous artistic criteria of the age. This most recent restauration has made it possible to document these many changes.
