Abstract

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to show the knowledge that the teachers of primary education have on the basic competences, as well as the orientation that they have received from different agents on this matter. The investigation has been completed through a project financed by the Commission of Education of the Junta of Andalusia named “Detection of teacher’s formative needs in the implementation of the basic competences. Design of a proposal of formation”. This investigation is based on an empirical, not experimental, descriptive and correlational design over questionnaire results on a sample of 246 teachers. These teachers have a good knowledge on the basic competences, but the orientation received on these has been very scarce, both on the part of the documents issued by the educational Administration, and of different specializing agents: inspectors of education, advisers of the educational centres and members of reference of the Guidance Service Teams. Also, the professional profile of the teachers determines their knowledge on the basic competences and the orientation received about these. Knowledge on the basic competences is influenced by the gender of the teacher, occupied position, exercise of tutorship, coordination of projects and generic formation received. On the other hand, received counselling is perceived in a different way by the teachers according to their gender, place of work, coordination of projects and generic formation.
