Suicide is a major cause of death among teenagers in the world. With this background, the objective of this article is to review the risk and protective factors and know the processes related to the suicidal behaviour. To properly evaluate the risk of suicide it is essential to know the causes associated and its possible prevention. Previous works support that suicidal ideation can be easily detected using simple tools and the subsequent confirmation by professionals of the cases encountered. The exploration of the factors that can protect young people, with suicidal ideation, must be a priority in public health research. The purpose that guides this article comes from the desire of working in this direction.
