La resistencia al cambio de las estructuras cognitivas: reflexiones relativas al proceso psicoterapéutico

La perspectiva cognitiva en psicología y psicoterapia sugiere considerar tanto los obstáculos al cambio terapéutico como la oposición del paciente a los procedimientos terapéuticos como aspectos de la resistencia al cambio de las estructuras cognitivas. Dicha resistencia remite a las características del proceso de asimilación, a la organización jerárquica del conocimiento de sí mismo y del mundo, y a las modalidades egocéntricas del funcionamiento cognitivo. Una vez detectada la resistencia particular al cambio de una estructura cognitiva, se convierte en la pista para una investigación: 1) del origen de tal estructura en la historia del desarrollo de la persona; 2) del papel central que ejerce en la organización global del conocimiento de sí mismo y del mundo del paciente. El deseado cambio terapéutico de dicha estructura se considera dependiente del mencionado examen crítico de sus orígenes y función, más que como producto de una brusca, y por otra parte teóricamente imposible, sustitución por otra estructura totalmente nueva.
