Resumen

Los gestores del sistema de atención pública en salud mental argumentan la necesidad de que las prestaciones que corren a cargo de los presupuestos públicos sean efectivas y eficaces, algo que parece comprensible. Se apoyan en las pruebas aportadas por la Medicina Basada en la Evidencia o la Psicología Basada en la Evidencia. Sin embargo, el sistema de evidencias se creó inicialmente para facilitar la toma de decisiones de los psicoterapeutas ante casos individuales como un complemento a su experiencia clínica. Se podría hacer un uso inadecuado de las listas de evidencias en psicoterapia con la finalidad de incluir o excluir un tratamiento en la asistencia pública. Hay que recordar que los resultados de la lista de evidencias actuales no han de considerarse como definitivos y que han de ser utilizadas con precaución sin considerar que las técnicas que no tienen evidencias por el momento son ineficaces o inútiles.
