Abstract

This paper analyzes the assimilation of the problematic experiences of a patient. It focuses on the dialogue between nondominant and dominant voices in the Insight stage, where this dialogue between voices is seen better. This study is based on a previous one where the role of the therapist in the context of linguistic therapy of evaluation was explored. In the present study, patient’s activities are analyzed, that is, how voices appear in patient’s Insights and how the patient dealt with these voices. Basically, results show the relationship of the patient with her voices on the Insight stage as well as with “the therapeutic voices”. One of the main implications of this study is that data show the relevance of diminishing the role of dominant voices in order to assimilate a problematic experience. Also, data suggest the importance of establishing an interpersonal (between patient and therapist), as well as an intrapersonal dialogue (within patient’s voices) to reach high assimilation stages.
