Abstract

Tourism stands out as one of the most important urban promotion policies develop during the last decades. Under certain circumstances, tourism and gentrification may end up blurring, so that both processes are fed back on a continuous basis, accentuating some of their effects. The space production needs, but also the changes in the consumers of the same, suppose other of the common elements of both dynamics. Although located in different territorial areas, three neighborhoods in the cities of Palma de Mallorca, Berlin and Quito, maintain similar cases regarding the interrelation between tourism and gentrification and all have put in place measures aimed at controlling the most damaging impacts.
