Author Guidelines

Thank you very much for choosing our publication for the divulgation of your academic work. These instructions will guarantee the smooth processing of all of those elements required during the editorial procedure and are meant to ensure that your article advances without delay through the stages of the double-blind review, production and publication.

Please take the time to read these instructions with care, so as to be certain that your article meets the journal’s requirements.

About the journal

The Revista Española de Educación Comparada (Spanish Journal of Comparative Education, REEC) is an international periodical publication which makes use of the double-blind review process and whose aim is to publish only the highest quality, original research of a domestic, international and global scope. Please see the journal’s focus and scope for more information about its academic orientation.

Double-blind review

The use of the double-blind peer review system by the REEC is meant to ensure the quality of the articles submitted for publication in the journal. Before approving an article for publication, it must be subjected to the double-blind review process, in which two experts in the field of Comparative and International Education evaluate the quality of the work. These two reviewers analyze various aspects of the work, in particular the validity of the methodology and the research procedures, as well as the possible presence of ethical issues or plagiarism.

The editors of the Revista Española de Educación Comparada, REEC, trust in their reviewers to orient them regarding the acceptance or rejection of an article. If the article meets established standards of quality, the reviewers may accept it or recommend further reviews. Of the different kinds of peer review systems that exist, the editors of the REEC have chosen to rely on the double-blind review system, whereby the reviewers do not know who the articles’ authors are, nor do the authors have any way of knowing who reviews their work. Please see our guidelines relating to publishing ethics

Original articles being submitted for publication should be sent through the OJS platform of the UNED: http://revistas.uned.es/index.php/REEC

In exceptional cases, or when there are problems with the platform, originals may be sent directly to the office of the journal’s Content Secretary, Lourdes Belén Espejo Villar: reec@edu.uned.es

Please keep in mind that the Revista Española de Educación Comparada, REEC, uses the anti-plagiarism program Turnitín for detecting any non-original material in articles being considered for publication. In submitting an article to our journal, authors are authorizing the verifications of the originality of their work in the double-blind review and production processes.

Authors will receive an official acknowledgement of receipt when their work has been received by the journal’s Secretarial Office.

Costs of publication – The Revista Española de Educación Comparada does not charge a fee for publication in the journal nor for the processing of articles.

Copyright and authorship – Copyright helps to protect an author’s original work, preventing its unauthorized use by others. Both the UNED and the SEEC adhere to the Creative Commons licensing policies in their open access publication of the REEC. Particularly, it is through this licensing arrangement that scholars are authorized to produce derived works, as long as they are for non-commercial aims. Authors cede the use of their works to the REEC.

Evaluation of articles – Upon reception of an article, the REEC’s Editorial Board – with the concurrence of the International Advisory Board, when pertinent – sends it to the external reviewers who, in conformity with the double-blind review system, evaluate the text. These reviewers then write up a report advising for the acceptance or rejection (or the acceptance pending modifications) of the article based on the journal’s criteria concerning questions of both form and content.

Authors may themselves propose external reviewers, as may monographic coordinators. To do so they should give the proposed reviewers complete name, professional position and workplace, along with a brief justification of the reviewer’s credentials. The Editorial Board, and, when pertinent, the International Advisory Committee, will then assess the appropriateness of the proposed external reviewer.

Once an article has been evaluated by the two reviewers, the author will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of the work or of its acceptance pending modifications suggested in the reviewers’ reports. In the latter case, when the author has finished making the suggested changes, the modified version will be sent again to its original reviewers.

Proofreading– Proofreading of the article’s formal electronic format will be done by the authors themselves, within the time frame stipulated by the Editorial Board.

Responsibility – The REEC is not responsible for ideas and opinions expressed in works published in the journal, which are wholly the responsibility of their authors.

STUDIES AND RESEARCH

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REVIEWS

This is the section where the more notable recent work in our scientific field is discussed, including material published both in printed and electronic formats. The comparatist academic in charge of this Section of Bibliographical reviews is the Ph-D holder Mrs. Luján Lázaro Herrero, of the University of Salamanca (lujan@usal.es).
