The Eyes Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the interventions with the greatest empirical support among trauma-focused therapies in recent decades. Currently, we have protocols that allow the application of EMDR in a group format. This format, although more recent and thus less studied, has a growing interest with some empirical studies supporting its effectiveness in the treatment of posttraumatic reactions. This paper presents a narrative review on the application of group EMDR, exploring the different existing protocols and applications in various populations and problems. In addition, the observed efficacy of group EMDR is assessed, based on recent studies and specialized literature. Finally, the practical implications, limitations and future directions of research in this field are discussed, providing a guide for professionals and researchers interested in innovative group therapies.
