After a brief presentation of the Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy model (developed by the author and Ramón Rosal), and after synthesizing the role and the influence of emotions in this model, this article approaches the concept of emotional intelligence. Following Salovey and Mayer’s perspective, the manuscript deals with the four levels of this model of emotional intelligence, and the sub-abilities that integrate each of them. As it advances in this systematic description, it addresses some interventions used by the Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapy in order to help the patient to acquire these emotional competences.
