Resumen

El cambio cognitivo constituye una meta para la totalidad de las terapias cognitivas. No queda claro, sin embargo, si éste afecta solamente a los contenidos o también a los procesos. La mayoría de las terapias cognitivas centran su atención en la modificación de los contenidos (creencias irracionales), dado que tales terapias no se han originado de las teorías del procesamiento de la información, sino que derivan de la modificación de conducta o del psicoanálisis. El artículo examina estas circunstancias y propone una revisión del concepto de cambio cognitivo en base al modelo general del procesamiento de la información y del análisis de los diversos estadios de desarrollo epistemológico.
