Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively via the OJS platform of the UNED.

In order to guarantee anonymous revision, manuscripts should avoid any mention of the authors and suppress any reference that could identify them, such as acknowledgments, funding and so on. These elements will be added prior to publication, once the text has been approved.

Manuscripts must be at least 8,000 words long and at most 12,000 words long for articles. For bibliographical essays or other types of collaborations, the minimum length will be 4,000 words and at most 5,000. Reviews must be at least 1,500 words long and at most 3,000 words long (4,000 for reviews of two or more books). These limits include notes, tables, graphs and appendices.

Historia y Memoria de la Educación accepts manuscripts in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and English. British English spelling and punctuation are preferred. Translations of the manuscript to any other languages will be accepted and published in parallel with the original manuscript.

Abstracts of between 200 and 250 words are required for all manuscripts submitted. Each manuscript should have between 3 and 5 keywords.

Any comments and information authors wish to include, such as acknowledgements, references to previous versions or funding, should be included in a non numbered (*) footnote at the end of the title. This footnote will be included in the blinded manuscript for evaluation.

References should be included in numbered footnotes.

Times New Roman 12 should be used for the main text, 11 for indented quotations and 10 for footnotes. Paragraph spacing should be 1.5 for the main text and single for footnotes.

Long quotations of 50 words or more should be indented without quotation marks.

Quotations will begin with «angular or guillemet quotation marks» followed by “double curved quotation marks” and finally, ‘single curved quotation marks’. (Example: the author maintains that «the declaration that “I shall not be the one ‘making cuts’ at this time” was unfortunate.»)

Headings. First-level headings should be in CAPITAL LETTERS; second-level headings should be in bold and third-level headings should be in italics, with an initial capital letter for any proper nouns.  Fourth-level headings should be avoided.

Centuries should be written out in full (nineteenth century).

Numbers 1 through 10 shall be written out in letters except when they are followed by symbols.

Quantities expressing time shall also be written out in letters (one year ago) as shall numbers at the beginning of a paragraph or after a full stop.

Abbreviations must be coherent and easily identifiable. Abbreviations which may not be known shall be accompanied by the full name the first time they appear, both in the principal text and in the footnotes. If necessary a final list may be called for with the meaning of each abbreviation.

Texts may include charts, graphs, maps or images, but only when these objects are indispensable for supporting an argument or hypothesis. There shall be a maximum of ten such objects. Charts, graphs, maps or images shall appear at the end of the article and shall include the corresponding title, legend and numbering. If the use of a different format is required (jpg, tif or other types of images, for example), these shall be sent in a separate file. In either case the text shall indicate the corresponding location and number for each chart, graph, map or image.  

Editorial Process and Flow:

Once the manuscript is received on the journal's website, the Editorial Board will meet approximately one month later and make a decision on whether the article meets the journal's editorial and thematic requirements. Once this editorial cutoff has passed, the article is sent for double-blind peer review. The evaluation criteria are as follows:

• Coherence in presentation and structure
• Argumentative rigor
• Compliance with the established objectives
• Adequacy of national and international bibliography and sources
• Formal aspects (careful use of language, clarity of exposition, conceptual precision, text structure, tables and graphs, etc.)
• Relevance of the conclusions reached
• Originality of the work
• It is recommended that the articles use appropriate, inclusive and gender-neutral language and, if necessary, conduct a sex/gender-disaggregated analysis.

It is estimated that the double-blind peer review period should not exceed six months. From this point, the journal's Secretary writes to the authors with the editorial decision. Articles accepted with modifications will have a period of time to make the suggested changes. The estimated time is indicated depending on the type of changes. In any case, it is recommended that this period not exceed six months. However, this time is flexible. Once the work is submitted, the journal has two months to respond to its final acceptance or rejection. Once the article is accepted, the author must complete the editing process and adapt the work to the journal's final standards. It is recommended that this stage be carried out as soon as possible. Once the article is in its final version, the journal schedules its publication. The time elapsed depends on the scheduling of the journal's monographs.

Authors: The journal has established as part of its editorial policy that it will not publish articles by an author who has previously published in the journal until a minimum period of two years has elapsed.
