Abstract.
The industry has made unprecedented changes in the structure and distribution of the population, has prompted the development of capitalism and its impact on the landscape has produced enormous changes in both urban and agricultural areas. We live in times of severe economic crisis, in fact our industry is being over whelmed by competition from emerging countries, most notably China and so-called “Asian dragons”. Globalization as the transformation of the world into a single economic and financial space opens light and shadow in the local development of any population center of any size. A suggestive case will be subject to our investigation, the city of Yecla and its municipality, an area where the industry engaged in manufacturing upholstered furniture and for decades has been the engine of economic development and that in this second decade of the century struggles for survival in a globalized world.
