Abstract

The proverb, understood as a linguistic structure close to the verse, is a fruitful field of study to examine the oral patterns which configure the fixed expressions of a given language. From this perspective, the purpose of the current research is to study the rhythm, meter and rhyme of the Galician and Catalan structures, on one side, and its Castilian correspondences, on the other, in Hernán Núñez’s posthumous compilation, the Refranes o proverbios en romance (1555). In this case, it is systematically studied those that present a Castilian translated form in order to describe the main characteristics of this multilingual printed collection of proverbs.
