Abstract

Psychotherapeutic intervention with families with one member integrated in a cult is approached from addiction model with is proposed as more useful from clinical psychology and from family therapy. This article comes from the wide clinical experience of the authors in EMAAPS. Clients requests are described in a selection of cases; diagnosis and assessment of family system and adept psychosocial profile are approached. Specific psychotherapeutic interventions with families are discussed. Clinical cases presented show that subject’s previous psychosocial difficulties are an important causal factor of the affiliation process and cult dependence. All the cases attended have been solved without having to contemplate the “manipulation” hypothesis or act over the group, their structures or activities.
