Abstract

This article presents a therapeutic approach for working with parents who have children with behavior problems. This integrative approach combines elements of Adlerian psychotherapy with strategic therapy. The intervention is done mainly, and sometimes exclusively, with parents, without the participation of the children. The therapist can act as counselor, by teaching the parents to use techniques in the family context, or intervene as therapist by applying techniques that stem from strategic therapy, basically in form of behavioral prescriptions. The presentation of the theory is illustrated with case descriptions.
