Desde la perspectiva del construccionismo social la comprensión y el tratamiento del duelo se entienden, como una proceso de adaptación a las consecuencias sociales y psicológicas producidas por las situaciones de guerra, violencia o catástrofes en relación a los presupuestos culturales de cada sociedad.
