Abstract

Psychotherapy, as it is a discipline and not a technique, must be the treatment of choice in all psychopathologies. Group psychotherapy will be the choice in mild and moderate disorders combined with psychotropic drugs in severe disorders.

The Training Programs for future specialists, and those for Continuing Training, should be reviewed and updated to include a "Psychotherapy Training Area", in its various modalities so it is able to comply with the portfolio of services of the SNS. Training in Psychotherapy must be a priority objective in the MIR and PIR Training Programs as well as in Continuing Education.

Training in Psychotherapy must be closely linked to care, to practices in therapeutic and family groups in the public service. The Assistance Psychotherapy Programs have to be reviewed in order to achieve the accreditation hours and the title of psychotherapist at the end of the residency. With political will, the theoretical and practical hours can be organized throughout the four years of residence.

Group methodologies in training are very effective applied to organization of the team, care, teaching and research in the field of Mental Health.
