Abstract

The increasing numbers of students, examinations and graduates within the study programmes and offers of further training programmes in economics show that the mission given to the FernUniversität at its establishment has been successfully fulfilled; this original mission includes disburdening the capacities of traditional universities, contributing to study reform and offering further education at the university level. In relation to the size of the teaching staff the faculty of economics with its numbers of graduates belongs to the leading group of universities in Northrhine-Westphalia. Interviews of successful students have shown that the completion of programmes in economics has led to better professional positions and higher salaries, so this kind of education represents a profitable investment.
