In the recent decades, research on the detection, diagnosis, and intervention of the autism spectrum disorders has increased; the concept of autism has changed and so have its diagnosis and treatment. The present article describes the most recent studies in the field of autism spectrum disorders with the purpose of giving a global view of its conceptualization, assessment and therapy. The information is completed with the description and therapeutic approach of a clinical case.
