Despite the effectiveness of psychotherapy, there is evidence about its limitations and possibilities for improvement. Given the therapist's factor, it seems that clinical experience, traditional supervision and knowledge are no guarantee of greater efficacy. This has implications for the Spanish Resident Psychologist (PIR) program, based on these aspects as pillars of the training. Instruments for monitoring the outcome of psychotherapy have been designed that can increase its effectiveness. The use of these methods is relevant within a context of deliberate practice. This type of practice is characterized by setting goals and training in skills that exceed the current level of the practitioner. Within the psychotherapeutic field, deliberate practice can contribute to an increase in the therapist's effectiveness over time. The paper makes a review of these concepts and proposes a model of deliberate practice applicable to the context of the Spanish PIR program, justifying their relevance and emphasizing the use of sessions recorded on video together with instruments for monitoring the result.
