Patients with eating disorders may suffer medical complications at the level of different organs and systems, most often due to significant weight loss or purgative behavior. The knowledge of the different conditions that may occur is essential to be able to carry out an early diagnostic approach and refer the specialized team that will be in charge of carrying out adequate treatment and follow-up. Sometimes one of these medical complications may be the key to making a definitive diagnosis of those more complex clinical cases. This review will deepen the different complications of the most prevalent eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa, as well as their diagnosis and treatment.
