Resumen

Los pacientes con trastornos alimentarios pueden sufrir complicaciones médicas a nivel de distintos órganos y sistemas, la mayoría de las veces derivados del predominio de la conducta alimentaria (restrictiva o purgativa), de la intensidad de la misma (sobre todo de la pérdida de peso), así como de la duración de la enfermedad. El conocimiento de las distintas afecciones que pueden ocurrir es fundamental para poder realizar una aproximación diagnóstica precoz y derivar al equipo especializado que será el encargado de realizar un tratamiento y seguimiento adecuados. A veces una de estas complicaciones médicas puede ser la clave para realizar un diagnóstico definitivo de aquellos casos clínicos más complejos.
En esta revisión se profundizará en las distintas complicaciones orgánicas de los trastornos de la alimentación más prevalentes como son la anorexia y bulimia nerviosas, así como su diagnóstico y el tratamiento.
