Abstract

The power and the prestige are two constructs widely studied in the social psychology and in the sociology. Nevertheless, these aspects are being used also in the specific context of the familiar relations, where they have proved to be useful in the explanation of the relationship between the acceptance parental and the psychological adjustment of the children. The questionnaire of power and prestige parental (3PQ), designed by Rohner (2011), is an instrument of recent creation orientated to evaluating both constructs in the familiar context of children and teenagers, and that has been used in different countries. The present study is addressed to analyze the psychometrics properties of the questionnaire 3PQ in a sample composed by 469 Spanish children and teenagers (45 % males; 55 % women) aged between 9 and 16 years (Mean age was 13.11 years and Standard Deviation was 2.5). The results confirm the initial structure of two factors of the original model (power and prestige) and also a second order structure that refers to the only factor (prestige - power). The evidences of reliability and validity of 3PQ obtained in the Spanish population are coherent with those expected from the original model. Likewise, the analysis of the sex revealed non-significant differences either in the total scale or anyone of his dimensions.
