Abstract

This article explores a lesser-studied aspect of Carmen Conde's literary oeuvre. Despite her extensive narrative production, her short stories and novels have often been overlooked in literary history, with critical attention predominantly focused on her poetic output. Through an analysis of the antetext of one of her earliest novels, En manos del silencio (1950), this study seeks to establish its connections with Conde's broader essayistic and lyrical production. By examining the development of female characters across the various preserved versions, we highlight the thematic significance of love, adultery, and passion in their construction.
