Abstract

This monographic dossier “Modern Woman of the Spanish Silver Age: Cinema and Stage” includes six papers dealing with a group of female writers born between 1898 and 1914, they are women of ‘27, and their relationship with the cinema, the scene and the very concept of “modern woman”. All of them applied the concept of "modern woman” to their life and to their work to a greater or lesser extent.

These writers are: Concha Méndez, Rosa Arciniega, Luisa Carnés, Josefina de la Torre and Silvia Mistral (pseudonym of Hortensia Blach Pita). Some facets of their production have not been recovered. The articles in this monograph try to fill those gaps.

These papers will deal with the film scripts of Concha Méndez, the novel Vidas de celuloide” by Rosa Arciniega, the concept of “modern woman” in the narrative and theater of Luisa Carnés, the cinematographic modernity of Josefina de la Torre, the political commitment in the cinematographic criticism of Silvia Mistral and the concept of “modern woman” in the children's theater of Concha Mendez.
