Iconografía de una capital barroca : Madrid entre el simbolismo y la ciencia

Las vistas y planos que me dispongo a estudiar son el testimonio interesado de un siglo de la historia de Madrid. Comenzamos con las que realizó un artista flamenco llamado a Espana por Felipe II por su insuperabie maestria para trasladar sabre el papel el verdadero aspecto de las ciudades de su reino, y terminamos cien anos mas tarde en la estampa saturada de preciosos detalles que produjo un cartògrafo portugués especializado en cartas nàuticas. Las estrategias de Wyngaerde y Texeira son distintas: la primera reconstruye una impresión óptica mientras que la información de la segunda exige ser "leida" pacientemente en cualquiera de los infinitos sentidos posibles; también son diferentes los puntos de vista desde los que habitualmente se estudian sus trabajos y sin embargo, los objetivos y obstàculos que tuvieron que sortear ambos profesionales de la imagen no se diferencian tanto comò pudiera parecer.
In 1561 Madrid was established as capital of Spain. Around thiose years a flemisti painter, Anton van den Wyngaerde, received de comission of making a set of precise views of the spanisfì most important towns. The present article analizes the creation of an iconography of Madrid from this moment until the middle of the seventeenth century when the portuguese cartographer Teixeira finished (1656) his famous etching. The interests of the patrons, the politicai relations between the monarchy and the city, the different use of the images and the development of topography as part of the studies of the Academy of Mathematics in Madrid, are considered to explain its differences and evolution.
