Humanizar las cárceles construyéndolas de nueva planta según principios de utilidad, sencillez, economía y decoro, era, al parecer, uno de los objetivos principales de la Arquitectura de la Ilustración europea sobre esta tipología. Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Burton, Howard, Bentham, Lardizábal y otros muchos se ocuparon de ella desde una perspectiva múltiple jurídica, ética-filosófica, pedagógica y también arquitectónica. La Ilustración establecería varias de las principales bases ideológicas de la ciencia penitenciaria moderna.Downloads
