Abstract

Suicide is perhaps the most devastating death, for both the suicidal, and those who survive him. Suicide is not a disease in itself but a behavior, the final pathway resulting from various risk factors: major mental illness and previous suicide attempts as the most important, medical illnesses that present with chronic pain, disabling, or determining disability or cognitive impairment, stressful life events, especially the loss or emotional breakdowns, and finally the social isolation. Treatment of patients with suicidal behavior includes pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and social interventions. A review of the most effective is carried out.
