This article reviews the profound changes that are being experienced in the field of Systemic Family Therapy, from its beginnings to the present day. The core of this change must be sought in the passage from an epistemology of representation to an epistemology of construction, from an epistemology of observed systems to an epistemology of self-observing systems. The implications of this conceptual shift for the practice of Family Therapy are also developed and the influence that this new perspective will undoubtedly have on the entire field of psychotherapy in general is pointed out.
