Abstract

The narrative-thematic model, which this work seeks to examine, represents an attempt to develop the initial approaches of two other therapeutic models: the narrative model (the problem- saturated story and the need of a new one) and the dialogical model (the problem determinated systems and the need of a new way of talking). Some of the instruments proposed by the model, illustrated through a clinical case, illustrate the main differences with these therapies: what posture the therapist adopts in them, the locus of intervention, what and whom the therapeutic conversation is based on, and the objective of the therapy.
This model posits a particular form of team use that allows members to realize how the story they tell (families and professionals) conditions their responses, and to overcome this tendency. Taking into account the flow of conversations that precede therapeutic conversation, the thematic plan of the session is viewed as a tool that allows the team to situate itself in the network, thereby helping to reposition the family, pointing to new possibilities and the future. The therapeutic conversation seeks to influence the relationships between family members and the professionals with whom relationships will be maintained. To this end, we take into account the people and topics that are activated at a given moment in the system, as well as the bias that the conversations take on. The story that is of interest to us is that which can be built based on what happens to the family during the course of the therapy, which we term the "story not yet lived."
