Abstract

The purpose of this article is to detail the various mechanisms of constitutional amendment in the state constitutions of the United States. Special emphasis is placed on analyzing the mechanisms of direct popular participation. Constitutionalism, in American theory and practice, is deeply tied to popular participation.
