Abstract

In Italy, assisted-suicide is prohibited criminally. Ordinanza n. 207 (2018) and the Sentenza n. 242 (2019) of the Costituzionale Court have, however, come to allow an exception: suicide-assited may be provided to terminally ill patients with serious conditions, if they depend on life-support medical treatment and have the capacity and freedom to decide. This paper concludes that this jurisprudence will be more symbolic than practical.
