Abstract

Heteronormativity establishes a series of patterns and behaviors that cause rejection and discrimination against the population based on whether they adapt to cultural and social norms concerning gender, or not. In this sense, transphobic attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors continue to be a scourge of the school system, occasionally leading to bullying. Since this problem has a high incidence, the objectives of this work were: a) to analyze the effects of a transphobic prevention program and b) to establish a relationship between school bullying and transphobia. To do this, a quasi-experimental methodology was carried out with a pre-test post-test evaluation in a sample of 58 people enrolled in the third year of compulsory secondary education at a High School in Granada, Spain. The data collection instruments were the Gender and Transphobia Ideology Scale Short version and the CEVEO. The intervention was carried out in ten 50-minute sessions throughout the 2018/2019 academic year during the tutoring hour. The results showed a relationship between bullying and transphobia, and statistically significant differences regarding the reduction of transphobic attitudes and school bullying. Therefore, the introduction of LGTBI themes in anti-bullying programs could help to improve the situation of trans* people, with clear and relevant implications for guidance.
