Abstract

This article highlights the need for adequate conceptualization of «genderviolence» in order to analyze what is behind the deaths of women by their malepartners and often appear in the media. While we are in the so-called information society, which assumes a greaterhuman development, the inertia of patriarchy has a strong resistance to it. Thevisibility of violence against women is an example of this, but in turn reflectsonly a specific side of the polyhedron which is «gender violence», and thecontent must unravel. Against essentialist speeches we are located within theconstructionist paradigm, to raising a criticism of the misleading equation madebetween gender violence and violence against women. For this has been redefinedthe structural categories of «man» and «woman» to expose the construct ofsex / gender, and gender has been presented as a social relation of dominationanalyzing regardless of sex to break with one of the deeper resistance mechanismsof patriarchy, such as the duality «two sexes / two genders.»
