Abstract

The aim of this article is to find out how second generation young people of Mexican origin begin their transitions to adulthood, taking as the main axes of analysis the educational trajectories in their beginnings and starting from two social institutions as their main influences, the family and the school. The biographical approach, specifically Daniel Bertaux’s life stories from an ethno-sociological perspective, has been the framework from which the analysis and interpretation of the data has been carried out. The field work was carried out in the south of the state of California, in 2016 and over a period of six months. Fifty-one young people were interviewed, but this study will use the accounts of seven of the informants.
