Objective: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is increasingly common in adolescence and is highly disabling. This umbrella review analyzes which psychological treatments have shown evidence of efficacy. Method: A search was conducted in PsycINFO, WoS, and PubMed using keywords to find reviews and meta-analyses published between 2013 and 2023. A total of 5 reviews, 3 reviews and meta-analyses combinations, and 1 meta-analysis were included following PRISMA standards. The methodological quality and risk of bias of the studies were assessed using AMSTAR-2, classifying them as high, low, or critically low quality. Results: Dialectical behavior therapy and mentalization-based treatment, adapted for adolescents, showed the most evidence of efficacy. Additionally, there was preliminary evidence of effectiveness for prevention and early intervention programs for BPD. Conclusions: More methodologically robust studies are needed to identify the key components of treatments essential for their efficacy and long-term effects.
