In this paper we analyze the presence of concepts linked to the sea world in medieval Occitan and Galaico-Portuguese lyric (12th-14th centuries). For that purpose we collect the frequency of their appeareance on cançonièrs and give examples of their uses and meanings. The classic heritage is combined with a dominating negative perception of the sea and with the nautical experience of each troubadour.
