The Dependent Status of the Roman Tenant in the Lease Agreements: Analysis of the Legal Sources

The present work aims to study the comments of roman jurists on the institution of locatio conductio in the high imperial period with the objective of elucidating the socioeconomic condition of the Roman tenant. Faced with the usual conception that understands this figure as an autonomous and independent businessman, our analysis highlights the dependent character of the tenant in relation to the owner, the legal insecurity in which he was found and the eminently labor role that he performed in the big italic estates.
