Abstract

Josephine Bonaparte was not born to be queen but was crowned empress. The First Ladies are not voted or elected but assume an important and decisive formal and institutional role in contemporary societies. From the institutional point of view, its activity is not regulated, but its importance is decisive in the image of the institution.
